Routine Production Testing

Process & Production Optimisation

ScanWell’s real-time tracer dilution system offers a precise, efficient alternative to traditional production testing, reducing costs, operational footprint, and crew needs while delivering accurate flow rates and gas compositional analysis.

Well Testing

Production testing is essential in the oil and gas industry for assessing the productivity of wells and gathering valuable data on reservoir performance. ScanWell’s innovative solutions revolutionize this process, offering real-time, highly accurate production data without the need for traditional, resource-intensive methods.

Traditional production testing often relies on Portable Test Separators or Portable Multi-Phase Flow Meters (MPFMs). However, these methods can be costly, time-consuming, and prone to errors due to metering inaccuracies. Additionally, they require extensive rig setups and large support crews, which increase operational costs.

ScanWell has been developing an alternative method for production testing using Tracer Dilution Technology. This system measures the in-situ flow rates of each phase by injecting a phase-dependent tracer into the flow line. The resulting concentration is then measured to calculate accurate flow rates, including gas composition, with only two sample points required.

This method offers several key advantages over traditional techniques:

  • Lower Operational Footprint: The tracer system has a significantly smaller operational footprint, reducing the need for large equipment and extensive logistics.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Operators can obtain more accurate production data faster, without diverting or deferring production.
  • Cost-Effective: Reduced operational costs and capital expenditure, as it eliminates the need for bulky equipment and large support crews.
  • Higher Accuracy: Real-time measurements of gas-to-oil ratios (GOR), water-to-oil ratios (WOR), and compositional analysis can be directly obtained in-situ, leading to more reliable data.
  • Environmental Benefits: As the system operates in-situ, it eliminates the need for gas flaring, reducing methane emissions and minimizing environmental impact.

Tri-Phase Real-Time Tracer Diagnostics (TRTD):

ScanWell’s tracer-based system provides a unique solution for three-phase production testing (oil, gas, and water). Conventional testing methods, such as 3-phase separators or multi-phase meters, are bulky, expensive, and require frequent calibration. ScanWell’s TRTD provides an accurate, in-situ measurement without the need for phase separation, offering high flexibility and lower operational costs.

Advantages of ScanWell’s Approach:

  • Reduced Environmental Impact: No flaring or unnecessary emissions, and reduced logistics-related carbon footprint.
  • Lower CAPEX and OPEX: No need for fixed test separators or multiphase meters on each well, significantly reducing infrastructure costs. The compact nature of the system also lowers operational costs.
  • High Accuracy and Versatility: Real-time monitoring of all phases provides accurate flow data and the ability to measure GOR, WOR, and CGR without needing a traditional separator.
  • Independent Verification: Tracer systems can be used to verify and calibrate other metering technologies, improving the accuracy of overall reservoir management.
